Snowboard or ski Holidays at Treble Cone in NZ
Located on the South Island, Treble Cone is recognized as one of the best snowboarding and skiing destinations in New Zealand. It is located closer to Wanaka than Queenstown and has the largest skiable area of any of the ski resorts in this region. There is over 550 hectares of slopes within the resort. The lift serviced vertical rise is just on 700 meters and the longest run is 4.3 meters in length. The resort is serviced by a six seater chair, a quad chair plus beginners lifts all with a total lifting capacity of 4500 people per hour. The terrain here covers all levels of skiing and has more advanced skier slopes than the other local resorts of Cardrona,, The Remarkables or Coronet Peak. Beginner slopes make up 10% of the terrain, intermediate 45% and advanced and expert slopes 45%. Many Olympic standard skiers use Treble Cone for off season training during the northern summer.
The access road to Treble Cone is not sealed however it is regularly serviced. It is accessible by two wheel drive vehicles however chains must be carried and signs will be in place if they have to be fitted. There is no on snow accommodation at Treble Cone so most visitors stay in Wanaka accommodation or Queenstown accommodation. Shuttle bus services are available for those who do not want to drive themselves up the mountain. Both Queenstown and Wanaka have a huge range of accommodation to choose from ranging from backpacker hostels through apartments and top of the range hotels. The mountain has excellent facilities for both skiers and snowboarders. There is an excellent caf&ecaute;/restaurant that will provide a great lunch or a quick coffee when you are on the go. There are rental facilities for all skiing and snowboarding equipment and a great ski school for the beginners. Treble Cone has full on snow emergency medical services as well.
The management of the resort are currently going through the process of obtaining approval for a gondola service to transport skiers from Wanaka to the skiing base area. This will mean that the drive up the mountain will become a thing of the past and make access for skiers and snowboarders really convenient.
